
Suroor is a recording and performing musical artist raised in Karachi (Pakistan) and now based in Memphis. Her music can best be described as industrial hyperpop, but draws influence from various musical genres, including shoegaze, sufi eastern classical, vaporwave, bhangra, alt-R&B, riot grrrl, UK drill, digital hardcore, spoken word poetry, among others. Her debut album LAVENDER SHOWERS was released in June 2023 and can be accessed through Spotify, Bandcamp, etc.
Suroor helps run a local DIY music label/artist co-op based in Memphis called Purgatory Pressings, which aims to serve as a community hub for artists, platform underground and DIY artists through music resources and distribution, and curate and host music shows primarily in Memphis but ranging all over the world. Beyond music, Suroor is also a published poet, pole dancer, runway model, and Philosophy PhD candidate at the University of Memphis, writing a dissertation on colonial constructions of sex and their strategies of governmentality in South Asia.
